The story of Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Drew covers two centuries, four theatrical dynasties, and three distinct art forms: the classical stage, vaudeville, and silent cinema. It is the chronicle of four star-crossed families: the Barrymores, the Drews, the Lanes, and the Rankins.
The act known as “Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Drew” were actually two couples: Sidney Drew and Gladys Rankin were the theatrical Drews, who delighted stage audiences all over the world for a quarter-century. Sidney Drew and Lucile McVey have had their legacy preserved through the then-infant medium of film. Less than half of their 170 films survive and recent revivals have revealed them as miniature masterpieces of domestic comedy. This book is a celebration of their lives and films.
